One of the most common questions I get is simple:
What the frak is a cyborg?
The answer is less simple. The modern day cybernetic human is explained thoroughly in Augmented Humanity. The feeling of actually being a cyborg is something you can only feel once you become one. Some will never feel this way, others were born this way -- especially children who, as E.S. recently explained at DLD2011, only have two settings now: asleep and online.
One of the best ways to understand is to watch A.C.'s TED talk We're All Cyborgs Now. A.C. and I met up in Boulder, CO., where we discussed cyborgs in depth. Her research into mental cybernetics and second selves deeply influenced the writing in my book.
