Growing Mindfully

Last year my old blog, Far Beyond The Stars, topped out at 80,000 visitors a month.

Last year my old blog, Far Beyond The Stars, topped out at 80,000 visitors a month. Now I'm at a slowly rising 18,534 readers. This smaller number is understandable, as I took about 6 months off from blogging regularly as I was (and am) still working with the deeper layer of the premium letter, Evolving Your Digital Work.

Now, I'm growing the blog again. This time, I want to do it slowly.

It's easy to grow a blog too quickly.

Throw in a cleaver headline, or trigger the hell out of people, and I'm liable to have a viral post on my hands. Two years ago, I got very good at writing just such posts. Last holiday season I wrote a post called "How to Save $1,300 and be Loved by Everyone Forever", which went viral, was retweeted multi-hundreds of times, and seen by tens of thousands. It was about consuming mindfully during the holidays.

While in practice, more seems better. In actuality, more isn't necessarily.

The thing about a viral post, especially one with a trick headline is many of the people coming didn't necessarily want to read my blog. They just came because there was a crowd, so what must have been happening had to have been important.

My plan this time around is to grow the blog, the premium Letter, and my next e-book mindfully.

I'm not going to be writing viral headlines, sucking up to super-popular bloggers, or selling my soul for eyeballs this time around.

This means I need your help.

If you read a post, and like it. I'd appreciate it if...

...share it! On the primary network you maintain your connections on (in this day in age, that could be many places or one.)

...link to it from your blog. This is the best, but understandably, also the most difficult. I tend to check my trackbacks, and enjoy reading your blog posts.

Thanks for your help.

Best, Ev
