One Thing Well

What if my business only had one size?

October 19, 2011

I just got off the train in Oakland, Jack London Square (just outside San Francisco). I walked two blocks to the Blue Bottle coffee roastery. The fog is burning off Oakland, which means that it'll be burning off The Mission in San Francisco in about an hour.

It's been awhile since I've been to the Oakland Blue Bottle. I ordered "a 12 ounce latte, to go."

"We only have one size. But you're in luck! It's a 12 ounce."

"Yay!"

What this made me think about: what if my business only had one size? If you don't like it, order two, drink half, or go to Starbucks.

Maybe trying to do every size well ends up making the coffee taste bad.

The alternative? Doing one thing well.

Here's a prompt to write on: if you could only do one thing well, what would it be?
