Two years ago, I moved across the country with all of my Things in a bag.

Last year, I became widely known for not having many Things.

Recently, I decided to take pictures of the Things I own. There aren't many.

There's an FAQ below, if you have additional questions leave them in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why don't you have many Things?

I began to realize around two years ago that owning was severely limiting my freedoms. I wanted to be able to move freely throughout the world, and Things stopped me from doing that.

Q: Why are some of these Things so expensive?

I'd rather buy quality Things than crummy ones. I only have two pairs of pants. I want them to last as long as possible, and also look as nice as possible. I only have a few Things, so it's important for me for them to be high quality and travel well.

Q: Are you a minimalist?

I used to call myself a minimalist, but after writing about the topic for a year, I realized that I needed to untether from the label. Labeling myself invites comparisons, comparing myself to you is a form of violent language.

We all live in different ways. I'd rather focus on the action word of Untether now "I untethered from my old pair of pants because they didn't fit me well anymore." I've just untethered from a lot of Things over the years.

Q: Where's your kitchen and bathroom stuff?

I have these Things, but they aren't the focus of this post. Maybe I'll photograph and write about them at another time.

Q: Don't you own furniture?

I only have a futon that I sleep on and a single stool for sitting in my apartment right now.
